Definition

Auto memory lets the agent accumulate knowledge without manual effort. In Claude Code, the agent saves learnings to MEMORY.md: build commands, project patterns, user preferences, corrections. The first 200 lines or 25KB load at the start of every session. Codex CLI uses a SQLite-backed memory store that post-processes completed sessions. Cursor offers persistent Notepads as a manual alternative.
